Floor Fitting

As well as being an experienced carpenter, I have specialised in fitting, repairing and refurbishing wooden flooring for 15 years.  I fit new oak floors for Stratford Upon Avon's most prominent wooden floor suppliers (Stratford Tile Warehouse and Homewood Houses) as well as for several local builders.  I have also built up my own loyal customer base and have always fitted directly for private and commercial clients. 

When it comes to fitting there are several different methods of fitting a wooden floor and the different ways of fitting are dictated by the type of sub floor (i.e. concrete, wooden, chip board or tiles) and the kind or wooden flooring you are having fitted.  All these details can be discussed during the quoting process but a brief overview is included below:

Secret nailing - A special flooring cleat is driven through the tounge at 45 degrees down into a wooden subfloor making a very strong fixing. The cleats are not visible on the surface of the flooring but are hidden, hence the name secret nailing.

Glue down - Glue is applied to the subfloor and the wooden floor is stuck directly down onto it making a very strong bond.  Best used to stick flooring down onto a concrete or tiled subfloor.  When glueing solid oak floors the application of an epoxy resin to prime and seal the concrete may be recomended, this and other details can be explained and discussed during the quotation process. 

Floated floors - Engineered and other man made boards can be floated over a cushioning underlay.  The underlay is laid over the subfloor and the new floor is laid over the top being glued into the tongues and grooves to hold it all together.  The cushioning effect of the foam underlay smoothes out any unevenness in the subfloor letting the new wooden floor sit neatly on top of it.
